A new design for street lighting in London’s Downtown was undertaken in 1998 through a detailed report, including the research and review of existing street lighting conditions and historical downtown street lighting design precedents, recommended objectives for the form and function of downtown street lighting, design guidelines and alternative design options. The recommended and implemented fixture was a polished Aztec Jade hexagonal concrete pole with dark green finished fixtures and fittings and a pedestrian scale glass globe that provides a source of civic pride and a unique identity for the downtown.
